The MRI Scanner set helps educate and ease anxiety for children undergoing testing

A new press release from a Lego spokesperson reveals that over one million children around the world have now played with and benefited from this play set, exclusively made to be used within Children’s Hospitals.

The initiative began with the hopes of reducing the need for sedation in children needing to undergo an MRI. Lego says in their announcement that “the set, which features a scanner, patient bed, waiting room, scanning room, staff minifigures and medical accessories, was designed by the LEGO Group and the LEGO Foundation to help children understand MRI procedures by learning through play.”

Results

The data collected thus far seems to indicate that Lego’s goal is being achieved through their efforts. An independent study conducted by the Lego Group stated that “96% of healthcare professionals globally who used the LEGO MRI Scanner set say the model helps alleviate children’s anxiety, and 46% report that it has reduced the need for sedation or anesthesia”.

Currently, this play set is not available to purchase by the public and is only being utilized in clinical settings.
